How do children benefit from sharing in your process of observing and documenting their learning?  (Think about the stories on pages 147-149.)

Not only does our observing give students a chance to see writing in action & with a purpose, but I think what the stories portrayed was that students respond well to quality time with their teachers. Spending time with students more one-on-one or in small groups makes them feel “loved” or “valued”. We all care about out students but we can really show them we care by taking the time to record their growth, interests, strengths, etc. (That’s what I got out of those stories anyway)

Very well said Lisa… I always find the classroom climate is very calm and quiet when I sit down to do anecdotes.
